Sophie Dumont

Sophie Dumont is a French contemporary painter based in Normandy. Working primarily in oil on canvas, she develops a distinctive body of work exploring layered landscapes, abstracted libraries, and interior spaces.

Her paintings are built through successive strata, where broad planes of color, textured surfaces, and subtle tonal shifts evoke memory, time, and the structure of space. Using a combination of palette knife and layered glazes, she creates compositions that balance construction and erosion, geometry and atmosphere.

Exhibited internationally, her work is held in private and institutional collections, particularly in the United States, where her collector base continues to grow.

Rather than depicting specific places, Sophie Dumont’s paintings suggest internal landscapes—spaces shaped by memory, perception, and the quiet tension between order and transformation.

Inspired by the seascapes of her native Normandy, as well as by intimate artist studios and imaginary libraries, she transforms these settings into poetic and timeless realms. Her structured yet vibrant compositions reflect a constant search for balance between reality and emotion.
